Prime Energy Drink Lemon Lime
May 14th, 2023First there was Prime, the expensive coconut water drink prized by every 12-year-old in the country. Now there’s Prime Energy Drink and it’s less in demand mainly because the shops won’t sell it to them 🙂 I love lemon and lime drinks, so I thought I’d start by trying the Lemon Lime Prime Energy. It’s a very strong flavour, no watering this down at all. That does make it quite sickly to drink sadly and extremely sweet despite the lack of sugar in it. It’s an ok energy drink packing plenty of caffeine, and the branding is certainly premium. At £2 per can it’s priced as a premium drink of course, but I have paid a lot more for considerably worse tasting drinks! Bingo bingo…

Rockstar Refresh Strawberry and Lime
May 6th, 2023I know that strawberry and lime is a popular combination now, but I’m not sure I get it. I love lime. I love strawberry. But, together? It’s not unpleasant but you end up with it tasting of neither, just a mush of strawberry lime hints in a general fruity drink. Look, the drink is ok, it’s refreshing, but I’m just not sure that strawberry and lime is up there with the killer combos of tomato and basil, or chocolate and orange. Not that you’d want either of those from an energy drink of course.

Rubicon Raw Pineapple and Passion Fruit
April 29th, 2023It’s just a really sugary tasting tropical energy drink. Loads of it, gives you quite a fruity rush I guess and it’s not bad tasting, but it really isn’t anything special.

C4 Orange Slice
April 8th, 2023It’s not a stand-out amazing drink, but as orange flavoured energy drinks go it’s quite smooth and refreshing. More of a orangey citrus drink really, but quite easy to drink. Not as nice as the Frozen Bombsicle variety but I won’t turn my nose up at it!

C4 Frozen Bombsicle
April 1st, 2023Well, I’m not too sure about the branding choice with C4… should a drink being explosive really be celebrated? But it is anyway, and they’re making the most of the bomb-based associations by calling this ‘Frozen Bombsicle’ flavour and claiming it’s an ‘explosive energy drink’. Still, it tastes amazing! It turns out the flavour is actually cherry-citrus, and those two are a great combination. Really smooth and refreshing. It also contains something called BetaPower/Betaine which is some sort of mystery ingredient license by DuPont. I’ve no idea what it is but there is a warning on the can saying “This product should not be used if food supplements containing betaine are consumed the same day”. I can’t help but think that they should make that warning clearer and also point out wtf betaine is if it’s so portion-limitingly critical!

Monster Reserve Watermelon
March 25th, 2023The can blurb states “No juice, tea, coffee or any tweaks to the Monster Energy blend. Monster Reserve is straight-up original Monster in new amazing flavours.”. You know what, I think they’re almost spot-on with that description. It does have something of the original highly sweetened Monster flavour to it, and the strong taste of synthetic watermelon there too. Looking at the nutritional information it’s clearly lower in sugar than the original blend used to be but that’s not a bad thing at all. This is actually quite a nice energy drink to consume, refreshing (not lemon-flavour refreshing), and not too sickly either.

Monster Ultra Rosa
March 11th, 2023I don’t know where to place this really. It doesn’t stand out as something special, but I can’t quite figure out the fruits involved either! The can talks about grapefruit, but I’m getting berries, maybe strawberry and other mixed red berries. It’s ok, maybe a bit of a summer drink, but not that refreshing really.

Monster Juiced: Aussie Lemonade
March 4th, 2023I love lemon-flavoured drinks and this was no disappointment! I can imagine this would be a very refreshing drink in the summer, it’s just a shame it’s a cold March morning at the time of trying it! I think I’ll get a second can of this to keep in for a warm day, it’s that good. I don’t normally try drinks a second time so this one is getting special treatment. Large can, quite sweet, slightly bitter lemon twang (you can really taste the lemon juice), top marks! Oh, it’s not sugar-free though so you get the old-style buzz from it too 🙂
It’s Time Energy Orange + Lemon
January 28th, 2023Considerably better tasting than the red berry original but still very sour. The citrus flavour from the orange and lemon is considerably more palatable making this drink slightly more refreshing as you make your way through the 330ml can. Don’t forget that this is still very high in caffeine just like the original, at 61mg/100ml. It’s also still sugar free, and packs the same ingredients mixture as the original too.
