Asda Blue Charge Mixed Fruit
January 8th, 2014Take a packet of Starburst. Munch the whole lot, taking special care to get extra juicy flavour out of the blackcurrent ones. Now savour the aftertaste of all those sweets mixed together because that’s what this Mixed Fruit flavoured drink tastes like. It only seems to come in a large 1 litre bottle for some reason… maybe I’m just not looking hard enough. The taste is okay though and it’s pretty unique so far as supermarket own brand drinks go.

Asda Blue Charge Diet Summer Fruits
January 4th, 2014Asda are really trying hard with their energy drinks… but not quite hitting the spot. They’re going for variety of range over quality and it shows. Fancy a berry flavoured drink? They have one! Tropical? yup! Diet? Most of them! This is a berry drink, and it is sugar free (at least, I haven’t found a non-diet version yet). It’s very strong in flavour – like it is almost 50% cordial! Overall though it’s only average so it gets average scores.

Amp Energy (UK)
December 14th, 2013It’s been a while since I tried the US version of Amp, so I can’t be 100% sure whether or not it tastes the same. It’s quite citrusy, with an almost pear-drop hint at the back of the tongue when you drink it. Now that I think about it, I don’t think it can taste the same as the US version. Looking back at that review I said how smooth the taste was and how similar it tasted to Mountain Dew. I’d have to say that this UK version does not remind me of Mountain Dew despite the logo plastered all over the can. It’s pretty good still, but I have better memories of the US version. I should also mention that whilst this drink is no where near low calorie, it is low by comparison to other similar drinks. With only 26kcal/100ml, it’s considerably lower than most other drinks which average at about 45kcal/100ml

November 30th, 2013Claiming to be Fairtrade where possible, the only ingredient listed as Fairtrade is the sugar, so technically I suppose that counts. It seems to me though to be a gimmick for the sake of a gimmick. Standing for Fair Exchange Energy Drink, F.E.E.D. is just another Red Bull Clone but with a difference – it’s on the sweet side for a clone and does have an unusual taste too. It’s borderline as a clone, but still a clone.

November 27th, 2013What a nice little Red Bull clone this is. Sweet, syrupy and generally very pleasant to drink. According to the can, the brand has won the accolade of “The Queen’s Awards for Enterprise: International Trade” a number of years in a row. Even though the award was for the product’s business practises as opposed to the product itself, I’m giving it the 2013 award for “The Fizzy Wake-Up Awards best Red Bull Clone 2013”.

Go Fast! Energy Shot

Euro Shopper Energy Drink Tropical Orange
November 12th, 2013For only 39p it’s not too bad. More orangy than tropically I’d say, but still a little on the sharp side for my liking. It’s obviously a budget drink and both the can design and taste reflect that, but if you want something different to the normal energy drink taste then you can’t really go too far wrong with this one.

November 9th, 2013When the can described the product as pineapple flavoured, I was expecting a sharp and sour kick. I was surprised! This drink tasted amazing. They’ve managed to create a sweet pineapple drink which, whilst fruity and refreshing, is not overpoweringly so. Most energy drinks that attempt to sweeten their tropical themed products to avoid the sourness end up with a synthetic flavour – again, this drink avoids that too. This drink is one of my favourites in the ‘trying to taste like a proper fruity drink’ category.

November 6th, 2013Awesome name! Disappointing execution 🙁 If you’re going to name your energy drink after a massive bomber, you should at least go to the effort of altering the flavour slightly. It seems like they’ve developed a great design and concept, then filled the can full of “Mixture A: Generic Energy Drink”. Nearly there guys…
