Mutant: Gold Strike
August 10th, 2019I discovered this range of Mutant drinks in a confectionary import shop in Cardiff. I thought at first it was a Monster rip-off, but it turns out it is actually a genuine Monster brand. The drink has been imported from Vietnam, and there’s very little English on the label so it’s quite difficult to make out any information about it from there. However, remembering when I tried a bottle of Mutant a while back, this spin-off brand is Monster’s attempt to get in on the Mountain Dew market. The Gold Strike flavour here is very similar to Mountain Dew White Out. It’s smooth and creamy (!?), I guess a bit like a citrus cream soda. Very nice, but very sweet and not that refreshing if that’s what you’re looking for.
Emerge Zero White
May 26th, 2018Of the three citrus flavoured Emerge Zero drinks I’ve tried recently, this is probably my least favourite. That’s not to say that it’s not nice because it is, but it’s just not so refreshing or enjoyable. It’s got a slightly tart flavour, perhaps with grapefruit in.

Emerge Zero Yellow
May 5th, 2018A fresh and very sweet sugar-free energy drink. It’s so sweet in fact that you’d struggle to believe it’s sugar free. Very nice, very refreshing.

Emerge Active8 Water: Dragon Fruit
December 2nd, 2017Of the three new Emerge Active8 flavours that have appeared recently, this is my least favourite. Its full description is “Dragon Fruit Citrus Zing”, and zing is the right word. There’s a tangy bitterness there which I’m not enjoying too much because it leaves a sickly aftertaste. It’s very fruity and strong compared to the other drinks in the range – my recommendation would be to choose one of the other two instead.

Monster Hydro Mean Green
September 16th, 2017Not sure I liked this much. It was still and very refreshing, but quite tart and tropical. I’d have preferred something a bit more lemonade-like, but having said that it was a change from the usual fizzy energy drinks.
Rockstar Revolt Killer Citrus
February 11th, 2017It packs a pretty good punch for a sugar free energy drink. Taste-wise, it’s almost tropical as opposed to lemon/orange, but it’s not overly tart and has a nice smooth flavour.

Emerge Citrus Mist
September 13th, 2014I really like this. It’s like a rip-off of Mountain Dew, only smoother in flavour. When I opened the bottle, it make a satisfying ‘tsskk’ sound, and a gentle mist actually started flowing from the opening like an early morning scene in a BBC costume drama. Very dramatic for such a budget drink!
