Relentless energy drinks have had a bit of a design overhaul recently. Gone is the gothic-style line art graphics on the can, and in are loud and bold colours. With that rebranding has come the new Relentless Zero, which is effectively a renamed version of their awkwardly named Relentless Origin Ultra (maybe because it’s easier to understand a ‘zero’ drink will be low calories instead of the wholly non-descriptive ‘ultra’ moniker they used previously. The drink is the same as before so far as I can tell – slightly watery but no strange brewed taste.

A fruity and almost tropical tasting drink with zero* (read that as 4kcal/100ml) calories. It’s nice but pretty sickly even when straight out of the fridge. At the time of writing this, Rockstar Energy still haven’t acknowledged any of their Pure Zero products on their UK web site, but if you look at the international US version you can get a taste of other flavours they may be releasing under this label.

It’s fake Lucozade! Not orange flavoured, but a generic mix of lemonylimeyoraneycitrussy stuff. Nice, but very high in sugar/calories as you’d expect from this type of beverage.
A very nice lemon and lime flavoured energy drink. Quite often with the lemon/lime flavours, they taste like someone has used way too much cordial. But, this one is balanced just right. This is the first ESTAR drink I’ve discovered and looking at their web site they seem to have many flavour varieties. If I come across any others I’ll be sure to grab and review them quickly.

As per the trend at the moment, this is a Stevia sweetened energy drink providing fewer calories than your regular full fat versions, but many more than your usual sugar free drinks. I think that this is strawberry or raspberry flavour, but can’t be sure It’s nice and refreshing though whatever its flavour is.

Another Swedish purchase, sadly this isn’t actually an energy drink at all. There are barely any calories and no caffeine at all, but I’ve included it on this site as it’s from the same range as the other NOCCO drinks I purchased at the same time. The citrus flavour is pretty good – more like a lime cordial mix than say Sprite, but very good anyway. It certainly tastes a lot better than your usual post-workout protein shake!

This is officially the first Christmas themed energy drink that I’ve ever seen. It’s really high in caffeine and it has those strange BCAA protein thingies in too. And how does it taste? Well, it took a few opinions to narrow this down, but I reckon it’s Christmas Pudding flavour. It smells a lot worse than it tastes, but it does taste pretty awful. I can’t see Christmas Pudding as a drink flavouring (energy or otherwise) ever taking off to the mass market!

Purchased in a 7Eleven mini-supermarket in Gothenburg, I had to Google Translate the flavor: Hallon means Raspberry. It tasted a bit like the Monster ‘Tea’-based energy drinks, which is to say, not that nice! It’s not fizzy, and quite watery tasting, but it does pack one ‘eck of a caffeine punch and is sugar free. It also includes BCAAs, which once again Google tells me is a protein supplement often associated with a weight-lifter’s post workout diet. It scores top marks for originality, but fails the taste test. Note: NOCCO = No Carbs Company.

It’s certainly a different take on orange flavoured energy drinks. It’s sweet but not strong or sickly. The taste is quite definitely orange, but not watered down either. I think they’ve struck a good balance of flavour. When compared to something like Lucozade, it’s not as sharp, fizzy, or sickly. When compared to one of the other ‘own-brand’ orange energy drinks, it’s much smoother and refined. You can’t taste that it’s a Red Bull product, but you can certainly tell that it’s a premium product.
