Pit Bull Cranberry and Pink Grapefruit
August 7th, 2013What I like about trying different energy drinks are the moments when a flavour sends me back in time. Pit Bull Cranberry and Pink Grapefruit has answered a question I’ve had for many years – When I was 18 and discovered alcohol, there existed a drink known as Red. This was a caffeinated alcopop popular with students around the country at that time with an unknown fruity flavour. For me and my friends this drink was the tipple of choice on many weekends, but we never did find out what the ‘fruit’ flavour of Red was. Well, now I think I have the answer because this particular Pit Bull tastes how I remember Red tasting. It’s a good combination without any bitterness of the other Pit Bull drinks I’ve tried and I’m finally impressed with flavoured Pit Bull.

Rip It Shot – Red Zone
August 3rd, 2013I like strawberry drinks, and a strawberry energy shot therefore should be ideal. Unfortunately the usual bitterness you get from energy shots was present and not masked by the strawberry flavouring which was itself a little bit on the weak side. However, the flavour wasn’t all bad and it left no long-term aftertaste, and most importantly IT’S SUGAR FREE! The drink has been coloured a bright pink so don’t let it spill on anything, but that is in tune with the Rip It range. Given the background flavouring of strawberries I’m no very much looking forward to trying its big brother Red Zone – after trying Citrus X normal and shot, the full-szied can proved to be considerably tastier.

Lucozade Sport Elite Orange
July 31st, 2013Watery. I guess on a run it might be quite refreshing – slightly flavoured so as to not be to sickly during high exertion. But, as an energy drink, it lacks a crucial detail of taste. It’s non-carbonated, yet caffeinated for an extra kick so it slips down easily and boots you several minutes later. Well, boot is probably the wrong word as it has a comparatively low caffeine content… maybe prod is a better word.

Boost Citrus
July 27th, 2013Pretty good especially for the 20p I paid for it! It basically tastes like soda and lime, sweet and refreshing. It went down pretty easy, I could have drunk a couple in succession. Quite unusual for a ‘special flavour’ version of a budget energy drink – usually you get a tropical and berry, but citrus / lime is refreshingly different.

Revive & Survive
July 24th, 2013A large silver can with writing on, screaming out at me as a budget drink. Yup, it’s another clone but a very sweet one. This one was so sweet it made my teeth feel fluffy which can’t be a good sign. Taste-wise I’d buy it again but I don’t think it’s that good for you!

Rip It – 3-Way
July 13th, 2013Putting the name aside, I’ll try to review the drink on its own merits! Looking at the picture on the front of the can I’m lead to believe that the three fruits involved in this drink are strawberry, blueberry and blackberry. It does taste quite nice mixing those together, but the overall effect is to make it taste like it should have been frozen and served in a long plastic tube on a hot summer’s day. Colour-wise it’s the same, with Rip It seemingly taking inspiration from Mountain Dew in their use of bright colourants in their drinks. 3-way is a bright blue! It’s not the best in the range, but it certainly gets high marks.

EQ8 – Cranberry & Apple
July 6th, 2013Jumping on the bandwagon of healthy drinks, EQ8 certainly has the credentials for being healthy. It contains no sugar other than that found in the medley of fruit juices it is concocted from, and the caffeine sources are guarana and green tea based too. Sadly the can gives no clue as to the actual caffeine content so I have to assume it is low. But, as energy drinks go, it does pick you up if not as forcefully as the synthetic varieties. Taste-wise, sadly it disappoints. This flavour is quite sour and could have done with added sugar to be honest!
Pit Bull Cherry and Lime
July 3rd, 2013I’m really not convinced on the combination of cherry and lime in this drink. The cherry flavour comes through, but it someone severely soured by the lime making it quite a bitter experience. Having tried the original Pit Bull, I could sense a theme as the underlying taste of the original was evident in this drink too, however I don’think it works as a mixer with other ingredients. Still, there are other Pit Bull cocktails to try and they could turn out to be wonderful so I shall withhold my judgement on this brand until then. Personally, I won’t be trying this again because there are many more nicer tasting drinks out there.

Lucozade Revive – Strawberry and Lime
June 29th, 2013The strawberry and lime combination don’t work for me. The strawberry suffers from the sharpness of the lime, and the lime suffers from the chewy flavour of strawberry. There’s also not enough caffeine in this to be of any use in quenching my caffeine addiction so it’s little more than a thirst quencher. Original in flavour, I’ll give it points for that, but the execution isn’t as nice as the bottle looks. *Note, I’ve estimated the caffeine content as the product contains too little for them to mark it as high and state the actual content.
