Lucozade Revive – Lemongrass & Ginger

March 10th, 2012

Mmmmm nice. Lemongrass and Ginger flavoured sparkling water according to the label, and it’s like drinking a Chinese takeaway. That’s not as minging as it sounds because the drink is really refreshing and more-ish. At only 50 calories it also fits in to the diet category of drinks too. Sadly though, the wake-up factor is low, with no caffeine content listed on the label leading me to assume it must be very low. The caffeine actually in the product is naturally sourced from coffee beans but wasn’t enough to give me the required hit. Still, a very nice product and well worth a try.

Rockstar Sugar Free PerfectBerry

March 3rd, 2012

The opinion of people surrounding me whilst I drank this was overwhelmingly about the smell. I didn’t notice that, but taste-wise it was highly perfumed! It was quite a synthetic berry flavour and in keeping with Rockstar tradition, very smooth to drink. The can size was smaller than usual at only 355 ml, and the associated caffeine kick was therefore lessened accordingly.

Blue Bear Light

January 28th, 2012

I’m still not sure what it is about sugar-free energy drinks that makes them taste (usually) considerably better than their lard enducing counterparts, but Blue Bear Light follows the same trend. Spar’s own-brand diet energy drink is a nice little Red Bull clone but sadly a tad overpriced in my opinion.

Lucozade Alert Plus Shot

January 7th, 2012

A very sour lemon tasting  shot, but it does wake you up. It’s also sugar free as standard which is unusual given that Lucozade products are normally quite high in sugar and calories. The sugar isn’t missed though because you get the energy hit quickly and it lasts for a few hours making this quite an effective shot.

Red Bull Sugarfree Shot

November 30th, 2011

This sugar free version of Red Bull’s Energy Shot suffers less from the bitterness problem. It’s still an acquired taste though, but more palatable overall. If you have to choose any particular energy shot to keep in your car for emergencies, this is the one to go for… it acts quickly despite the lack of sugar and doesn’t leave you feeling tired after half-an-hour when the sugar low catches you up.

Rip It Shot – Citrus X

November 12th, 2011

Yay! An energy drink brand with lots of different flavours of energy shots instead of the normal boring single flavour in full-fat and sugar-free. Rip It Shots are ALL sugar free, and they’re all based on flavours from the main Rip It line. This flavour sort of tastes like a bitter version of Rip It Citrus X – you can taste the oranges. It’s nice as energy shots go and can be downed without gagging which is good going compared to some energy shots (ahem, Target Urban…)

Target Energy Shot – Urban

November 5th, 2011

When I opened the bottle up, I was immediately hit with a nasty smell. It was like someone had farted in the bottle then closed the lid. Then I tasted it and that confirmed my suspicions. I’m pretty sure someone had infused a fart with this drink – it tastes awful. Seriously, go and buy one of these because you need to taste it to believe it! It’s a double strength version of the ‘life’ Target energy shot, and also boasts only 4 calories. Personally I’d have been grateful for an extra few calories just to improve the flavour.

Source Sugar Free

October 15th, 2011

It tastes no different to the full-fat Source (click here for that review). Obviously because it is sugar free, I preferred it, but taste-wise it was exactly the same.

Pit Bull Sugar Free

October 5th, 2011

Now, I’ve not tried the full-fat version of Pit Bull at the time of writing this review, and this is my first ever taste of Pit Bull energy drink. I’m told that the sugar-free version tastes exactly the same as the regular version and I hope it does. Pit Bull’s flagship flavour is described as having “a great lemon/lime ginger ale taste”. Now, I can’t really compare it against ginger ale, but the lemon/lime flavour certainly comes through. It’s a refreshing summery drink which went down very nicely on the particularly hot day that I drank it on. Sadly, neither the can nor the web site advises the caffeine content of the product so I’ve made a guess at 10mg/100ml. It didn’t have a great kick, but it had a great flavour.
