Red Bull: Zero Calories
April 9th, 2014There are two things I need to say about this drink. Firstly, it doesn’t really taste like Red Bull, and Secondly it is not zero calories! It’s close, at 1.8 calories/100ml, but that’s not ZERO in my opinion. It tastes sharp and tart, but not like the usual smooth Red Bull flavour in the regular or sugar free varieties. I’d go so far to say that I’d class this as a bad clone if I didn’t know better! They’ve chosen a dark grey colour for the can which looks pretty cool, but to be honest for the difference in calorific value of about 6 calories, you’re much better off going for good old sugar free – it tastes like actual Red Bull for starters!

KX Red Berry Sugar Free
April 2nd, 2014Just as with the ordinary KX Red Berry, it’s very strong and overpowering. Not to my taste but it is pretty original.

Crazy Devil
March 29th, 2014It’s a clone, and not a particularly interesting one. It’s nice tasting and as a bonus sugar-free by default (I’m assuming there’s no full fat version.) Discovered on the (German??) island of Majorca, this is a German energy drink.

KX Sugar Free Citrus
March 12th, 2014More or less the same as the full-fat version – I couldn’t even taste the usual chewy sweeteners. You might as well go for the sugar free version and spend the remaining calories on a chocolate bar as far as I’m concerned because the taste was almost identical.

Vitabiotics Wellwoman
February 8th, 2014This tastes like it must be good for you, and by that I mean it tastes bloody awful. The can claims it contains Elderberry, green tea, grape seed, artichoke, pomegranate and cranberry – I can only tell you that the combination is not good. Maybe you do have to be a woman to drink it, perhaps it tastes better then? But, in my opinion, it tastes like someone has filtered compost and canned the residue. I know it has a decent caffeine hit, but couldn’t tell you the exact amount because there’s no information on the can. That means that it doesn’t contain enough to warrant the warning – but the caffeine is hidden amongst the guarana and green tea extracts.

Boost Sugar Free
January 22nd, 2014I finally found Boost Sugar Free, but it’s not in a can. A 500ml bottle is all I could get hold of, and I really prefer to review 250ml can editions if at all possible. That said, it’s a nice yet unoriginal clone. Best chilled, of course, because being in a bottle it warmed up quite a bit by the time I’d got to the second half.

Blue Spark Mixed Fruit Sugar Free
January 11th, 2014Really good! Nice and fruity, cheap, and low calorie too. I highly recommend this drink for something different to the usual array of supermarket own brands. It’s not too fizzy, not too sweet, not too bitter – just right. Go get a can right now…
