I generally hate tropical energy drinks. I hated this one too. It’s not as bad as some, with the usual Lucozade watered down flavour helping considerably! As for the caffeine kick, it doesn’t offer much to be honest, but the elevated sugar levels help you crash in style. Ouch. Sorry Lucozade, I’m just not a big fan.

Labelled as The Mother Load in a resealable can, this is just another fizzy apple squash tasting drink. It’s not a different as the Rockstar sour apple, but it’s palatable and packs quite a punch in the energy department. Apple is the new tropical – once one manufacturer does it the others follow suite so I expect to see many more apple flavoured energy drinks appear over the next few months.

It took a fair amount of effort to get hold of this drink – several trips to Boots because each time I went in, this flavour had sold out. The orange flavour was easy to get hold of by comparison. So, I had high expectations that this much be really nice as it’s the most popular. Well, I was disappointed. It’s not to my taste at all. Sharp with a nasty aftertaste. It could do with a load more sugar, but that would remove it from the low calorie category I guess! If you’re getting one of Boots’ Shapers, get the orange one.

Sharp and refreshing, I liked it although it isn’t in my top 5 citrus energy drinks. It’s certainly one of the better KX offerings – the original flavour I don’t like much any more, but this is nothing like that.

Yum. I know that I have a habit of comparing drinks with freezepops, but I’m going to have to do it again. Quick Energy Lime tastes like lime flavoured freezepops. I love the flavour and this energy shot has no nasty aftertaste and no bitter during-taste either (is during-taste a known phrase? If not, copyright by me). It has a very high caffeine content too with only 5 calories per shot which sent me buzzing quickly. One of my favourite shots I reckon.

Wow! This makes a change to the usually watery tasting Lucozade Energy products. The taste of lemon is sweet, strong, tangy and refreshing making this possibly the best tasting Lucozade in the range. The lemon flavour is similar to the taste of a traditional lemonade – possibly on the synthetic side, but pretty much nailing an ideal balance. Strength-wise, most of the kick in this drink comes from the sugar, as you can see from the very high calorie content but low caffeine content. This does mean that you may end up with a head-ache and feeling a bit groggy a few hours later but I reckon it’s worth the downer for the occasional treat…

A really smooth a refreshing lemon drink. Not too sharp or sweet but just right. It’s like the posh cloudy lemonade you can buy in posh supermarkets… Nothing at all like the brewed tasting original Relentless flavour. It does have quite a kick to it, possibly because it is so smooth and moreish that you drink it very quickly.

It tastes like tea. I don’t like tea therefore I don’t like this drink – but I had to try it because it exists! There’s some fruit juice in there too, but you can’t taste it – you just get an overwhelming taste of tea.

I’m still not convinced on the use of tea as a suitable ingredient in energy drinks. Luckily, the orangeade flavour of this one mostly masks the tea flavour. It’s still there, brewing (see what I did there) at the back somewhere, but the orange-ness is a welcome overtone. Personally though, if you want an orange flavoured energy Monster, get Monster Khaos.
