This EQ8 flavour, I assume, is not as healthy as the Cranberry & Apple version. I say this only because it doesn’t have the “1 of your 5 a day” logo stamped on the front of it. However like the other one, it is packed full of fruit juices and doesn’t contained any added sugar. The combination of juices in this drink give it a tropical flavour, and is much sweeter than the other flavour. It has a refreshing taste to it but doesn’t give you much of a caffeine kick.

Jumping on the bandwagon of healthy drinks, EQ8 certainly has the credentials for being healthy. It contains no sugar other than that found in the medley of fruit juices it is concocted from, and the caffeine sources are guarana and green tea based too. Sadly the can gives no clue as to the actual caffeine content so I have to assume it is low. But, as energy drinks go, it does pick you up if not as forcefully as the synthetic varieties. Taste-wise, sadly it disappoints. This flavour is quite sour and could have done with added sugar to be honest!
I’m really not convinced on the combination of cherry and lime in this drink. The cherry flavour comes through, but it someone severely soured by the lime making it quite a bitter experience. Having tried the original Pit Bull, I could sense a theme as the underlying taste of the original was evident in this drink too, however I don’think it works as a mixer with other ingredients. Still, there are other Pit Bull cocktails to try and they could turn out to be wonderful so I shall withhold my judgement on this brand until then. Personally, I won’t be trying this again because there are many more nicer tasting drinks out there.

Breaking the tradition of me preferring the taste of sugar-free versions over their full-fat counterparts, Dark Dog Light tastes exactly the same as ordinary boring Dark Dog. It has the same caramelly taste and no chewy artificial sweetener aftertaste either. The only thing it lacks is the sugar rush and crash. This is my last French energy drink for a while due to low stocks… unless anyone wants to post me some more?? 🙂

Is it called Psychik, or is is called Taurine Light Force? I don’t know.. but I do know that this is a very good Red Bull clone. Nice and sweet getting the balance just right especially as this is a supermarket own brand. Sadly though, it’s a supermarket own brand in France so unless you live over that way, you’ll either have to take my word for it or find yourself a French-based contact to send you one.

‘Part of the 500 calorie meal deal’ from Boots, apparently. It’s an own-brand offering from the high street store, one of two flavours they have for sale. It’s clearly aimed at the calorie conscious, providing only 16 calories per can, but it does manage to cram in actual real orange juice. That would explain the most natural orange flavour I’ve tasted in an energy drink. It’s sharp, but fortunately watered down to the point of being just about right, and it packs 32mg/100ml of caffeine. On a karmic scale – it probably balances bad-for-you with good-for-you.

This delicacy, also from France but seen in Spain and Germany too, has a distinctive energy drink taste but is not a Red Bull clone at all. It’s a much more earthy taste, quite caramelized but nice nonetheless. Dark Dog is different and successfully so, but it’s not as sickly and sweet as most energy drinks, or as artificial as Monster.

Better than the cranberry version, but not as good as the lemongrass. It really just tasted like orange Lucozade and not that special at all. I had high hopes for the new range of Lucozades, but to be honest there’s only the one of them which stands out. Go for the lemongrass flavour instead as it’s refreshing and different – if you want an orange Lucozade, get the original orange flavour instead

Have you ever emptied an entire packed of Skittles in to your mouth? That’s the flavour of Hitz The Spot… it’s a real mix of fruit flavours but not too bad tasting. The strength is pretty good too and as I paid only about 30p this drink turns out to be one of the best value for money products on the site.
