Nutri1st 3in1 Sports Drink Orange

April 26th, 2014

It’s a clever idea – jump on the bandwagon of protein drinks by producing an energy drink with added protein. The 3in1 on the bottle refers to the combination of protein, carbohydrates and caffiene, and the drink is clearly marketed at the gym-going type. The taste, sadly, is not up to scratch. The orange is very bitter and not at all refreshing. If I were drinking this after a gym session, it wouldn’t help my stomach at all. Also if it’s protein you are after then you should probably go for an actual protein shake or protein bar – this drink contains less than 2g of protein.

KX Still Red Berry

April 23rd, 2014

Sickly in quantity but not too bad overall. It’s more like drinking one of those cheap children’s plastic cup drinks than an energy drink because it’s still and not carbonated. Nothing original though as there are dozens of berry drinks which taste the same.

KX Fiery Sugar Free

April 19th, 2014

Just as nauseating as the full fat version with the same fiery aftertaste, much as you might expect from a drink named as such. I can’t tell it’s sugar free from the taste when compared with the sugared version so go and read that review for my full critique.

Superman Energy Drink

April 16th, 2014

In theory, this drink should be the best drink ever. It’s officially linked to DC according to the logos on the back, and it’s probably imported from Krypton or at the very least the Fortress of Solitude. Sadly though it tastes just like a cheap Red Bull knock-off. It’s on the sour side with notes of pear drops, but it’s still very much a cheap tasting drink. Shame really, they could have made a brilliant drink with branding like this. Here’s my suggestion: make it bright green like kryptonite, change the flavour to something more fruity, and brand it as an antidote to kryptonite… just a suggestion. Right, anyone seen a Batman energy drink?

Red Bull: Zero Calories

April 9th, 2014

There are two things I need to say about this drink. Firstly, it doesn’t really taste like Red Bull, and Secondly it is not zero calories! It’s close, at 1.8 calories/100ml, but that’s not ZERO in my opinion. It tastes sharp and tart, but not like the usual smooth Red Bull flavour in the regular or sugar free varieties. I’d go so far to say that I’d class this as a bad clone if I didn’t know better! They’ve chosen a dark grey colour for the can which looks pretty cool, but to be honest for the difference in calorific value of about 6 calories, you’re much better off going for good old sugar free – it tastes like actual Red Bull for starters!

Jaguar Energy Drink

April 5th, 2014

Awesome name, plain drink. It’s a clone to be sure, on the sweet side and quite nice, but nothing original. At 99p for a can, it’s also not cheap. At the time of writing, the official web site as printed on the can just redirects to a parked page, but the can is current and in date so I guess they’re still working on the branding.

KX Red Berry Sugar Free

April 2nd, 2014

Just as with the ordinary KX Red Berry, it’s very strong and overpowering. Not to my taste but it is pretty original.

Crazy Devil

March 29th, 2014

It’s a clone, and not a particularly interesting one. It’s nice tasting and as a bonus sugar-free by default (I’m assuming there’s no full fat version.) Discovered on the (German??) island of Majorca, this is a German energy drink.

XTREM

March 26th, 2014

It’s a clone on the sweet side. Pretty nice tasting but nothing special. Then again, why did I expect from a can with the silver showing through so predominantly… just saying, it usually means it is a budget drink. I stumbled across this one in a vending machine in Madrid airport.
